Do I need a Powerful Computer?

I wish I have the cash to upgrade my computer to a faster on as I am not a gamer, I find the boot up time and shutdown time is a bit slow.I am running a AMD Athlon 64 Westchester .I can say it is ok for my usage but using it for my music causes alot of lentancy.
